The Young Lawyers Section is partnering with the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) to host immigration relief screening clinics for Chicago residents. The National Immigrant Justice Center is dedicated to ensuring human rights protections and access to justice for all immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers including unaccompanied immigrant children and survivors of domestic abuse and violent crimes. NIJC provides direct legal services as well as policy reform, impact litigation, and public education.
The clinics will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 11:00am-2:00pm. Volunteer attorneys, law students and Spanish language interpreters are needed at two locations – Malcom X College (1900 W Jackson Blvd) and Wilbur Wright College (4300 N Narragansett Ave).
Prior to the clinic, volunteers will be provided a general orientation by the NIJC team on how to conduct legal screenings for immigration relief. Volunteers will be expected to conduct 1-2 intakes per clinic and interpreters will be available to assist if needed.
This is a one-time volunteer opportunity; attorneys will not be expected to represent any client for whom they conduct a screening.
Please consider volunteering with the YLS and NIJC on November 19 and encourage your friends and colleagues to join you!
