Committee Spotlight: Tort Litigation

Committee Name: YLS Tort Litigation Committee

Chair Information: The Committee has three co-chairs for the upcoming bar year: Jack A. Gould, an associate at Swanson, Martin & Bell; Steven L. Vanderporten, an associate at Swanson, Martin & Bell; and Alexander J. Beehler, law clerk to The Honorable James P. Flannery of the Circuit Court of Cook County.

Day of Committee Meetings: 4th Thursday of every month.

Goals and Objectives for the 2018 – 2019 Year: Our aim is to foster a community amongst professionals who are focused on improving their legal knowledge and connections. We will offer meetings providing useful information to young attorneys, and an opportunity for members to discuss tort law generally.

Featured Speakers or Seminars: Speakers for the upcoming year will feature a mix of plaintiff’s attorneys, defense attorneys, and judges within the tort-focused Law Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Our seminar will be November 6, 2018, from 3-6 PM.

Why should YLS Members join the Committee?: Cook County is one of the largest venues for tort litigation in the entire United States. There is quite a bit of substantive law and procedural rules for young attorneys to be aware and on top of. If you are a young attorney working personal injury or commercial tort matters, this committee can help elevate your practice.

All Chicago Bar Association members are eligible to participate in committees at no additional cost!  Sign up for CBA and YLS committees by clicking here and begin to receive notices of upcoming meetings and events.
