Renowned Chicago author and criminal defense attorney, Andrea D. Lyon, has assembled a powerful anthology of true-life stories of women criminal defense lawyers “fighting the good fight” in criminal courts in her most recent book, The Feminine Sixth, Women for the Defense. She will join the CBA for a virtual discussion on March 10 at 3:30 p.m. about the book and will share lessons learned from a career representing clients accused of a crime amidst the challenges of sexism, discrimination, and unconscious bias—lessons which are universal to all women in the legal profession which is still largely a white man’s world. She will also discuss strategies that can be employed to achieve greater diversity in the legal profession today, based on the experiences of women who have overcome the odds in the past.
